Charity and Freemasonry
In its sheer scale, English Freemasons are one of the biggest charitable givers in the country and gave £51.1m to charities in 2020 alone. The Masonic Charitable Foundation, the Freemasons’ Charity – our national charitable grant giving arm, tackles some of the most significant challenges facing society, in particular, reducing loneliness in later life and ensuring a positive future for young children. Our Freemasons Charity works in partnership with some of the biggest charities in the country to deliver our support. Freemasonry also assists by funding significant amounts for medical research into treatments for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and a whole range of other conditions. In addition, it makes donations to support those affected by overseas disasters as well as those at home.
Freemasons do not just donate money - more then 18.5 Million hours of volunteer work is undertaken by freemasons in their communities every year.
Lodge Charity
Lodge members contribute to central Masonic Charitable Funds and also
contribute smaller sums, totalling over £2,000 per annum to local charities in the
Aldershot area especially those that have links to the military. In 2021 despite a
Covid-19 interrupted year Lodge members donated:
• £600 to the Royal British Legion (Aldershot Branch)
• £500 to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care (Farnham)
• £275 QARANC Association Benevolent Fund (Frimley Park Hospital)
• £200 Parkside - Aldershot & District Learning Disabilities
• £400 to Ripple Pond (Aldershot) – Veterans’ families support organisation
• £250 to SSAFA (Aldershot)
Lodge members also provide other forms of assistance.
We would be interested to hear from any local charity, particularly those with military connections who might require assistance for a specific problem. Please contact us using this page.
